Imagine being stabbed five times by a terrorist, and living!
Speaking for health
Let me tell you of my lived experience story of severe physical and psychological trauma as a result of a terrorist attack, and how I came out the other side. I encourage people not to be afraid to speak about their mental health or be there for others in need of help.
Being attacked by a terrorist
changed my life… for the better!
In just 12 seconds…
Twelve seconds can change your life, it did for mine.
I am 27-year career police officer, having spent 17 years with Victoria Police before joining the AFP in 2013.
In 2014 my life and career changed forever when an 18-year-old terror suspect targeted me as an on-duty police officer and tried to kill me outside the Endeavour Hills Police Station. My life was saved only because my partner fired a single shot and killed the terrorist.
Whilst the attack only took about 12 seconds, my life, and the lives of the people around me, especially my family, have changed immeasurably since that time.
I share my story, how it affected me and the survival skills I developed to improve my life after this life-changing incident. People find answers when I speak openly about my journey and it can open the door to opportunity for all.
Receiving the Bravery Medal acknowledged the gravity of the terrorist attack.
The Bravery Medal (BM) is only given for acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances for which I was awarded for displaying “…considerable bravery during a confrontation with an armed offender in Endeavour Hills…”
